What Is an AMC (Asset Management Company)?
An AMC — Asset Management Company — is the company that manages mutual funds. It pools money from many investors and invests it across its schemes according to each scheme's mandate. In India, familiar AMCs include HDFC, SBI, ICICI Prudential, Nippon India, and dozens more, each regulated by SEBI.
Fund house vs scheme
The AMC (fund house) is the parent; a scheme is an individual fund it runs — for example a large-cap fund, a flexi-cap fund, or a debt fund. One AMC runs many schemes. See fund categories and direct vs regular plans.
How AMCs make money
AMCs charge an annual fee called the expense ratio, taken as a percentage of the assets they manage (the AUM). A larger, cheaper fund can run a lower expense ratio.
Seeing what the funds hold
Each AMC publishes a monthly portfolio disclosure of what its schemes hold. BharatStock builds its mutual-fund holdings data from AMFI and 40+ fund houses' own disclosures — so you can find which funds hold a given stock or inspect a scheme's full portfolio via the API.
